The Munich Center for Health Economics and Policy (M‑CHEP) has officially launched as a joint initiative uniting 15 chairs and professorships from leading Bavarian universities. Developed collaboratively by researchers from the Technical University of Munich, LMU, the University of Augsburg, FAU Erlangen‑Nuremberg, and the University of Bayreuth, the Center aims to strengthen health economics research, improve health system performance, and support evidence‑based policymaking.
What began with early discussions among TUM researchers in 2023 has grown into a unique, cross‑university network in southern Germany.
The TUM School of Management actively participates in this initiative and contributes analytical and methodological expertise to M‑CHEP’s interdisciplinary work.
Prof. Dr. Rainer Kolisch specializes in health care operations management, applying operations research and analytics to improve processes, resource allocation, and efficiency in health care delivery.
Prof. Dr. Helmut Farbmacher brings expertise in econometrics and data science, including the analysis of large administrative data sets to better understand and assess health system performance.
Reflecting on the potential of M‑CHEP, both professors highlight the Center’s strength in bringing together diverse methodological perspectives and advanced data resources:
Prof. Dr. Tim Büthe, Chair of International Relations at TUM and secondarily affiliated with the TUM School of Management, is also part of M‑CHEP. His involvement strengthens the Center’s expertise in regulatory governance and international policy analysis.
The official opening at the TUM Campus at the Olympiapark brought together around 250 guests from academia, self‑governance organizations, and the healthcare sector. Highlights included keynote lectures by international experts and an opening address by Judith Gerlach, Bavarian State Minister for Health, Care and Prevention.
Through M‑CHEP, the TUM School of Management contributes disciplinary and methodological expertise to collaborative research at the intersection of management, health, and policy.
