Project Studies

Collaborative projects connecting students, companies, and academic chairs.

Project Studies at TUM School of Management

Across our project study programs, students tackle real-world challenges in a systematic and academically grounded way. They define problems, choose suitable methods, and develop well‑reasoned solutions while working effectively in teams and managing tight timelines.

Throughout the process, they gain experience in structuring project phases—from initial analysis to final presentation—and strengthen their analytical, communication, and teamwork skills.

Project studies can be carried out at a university chair, within a company, or at a research institute, offering flexibility to match individual interests. By the end, students can clearly and professionally present their results to both academic and industry audiences.

This page provides all essential information for companies interested in proposing a project and students planning to complete their project study.

What is a project study?

A project study is a for-credit module in which a team of two to five students works on a practical or research project related to their study program. It is supervised by a TUM School of Management chair and usually concludes with:

  • A written project report
  • A final presentation

Important: A project study is not a mandatory internship and cannot be used as a substitute for one.

You can find a detailed overview of the project study in the module description in TUMonline.

Please also make use of the Moodle course to find (a) project partner(s). Each of our degree programs has its own dedicated Moodle course titled "All You Need to Know About Your Master´s Journey" containing helpful information, key dates and deadlines, important announcements, and useful resources for your studies in one central location. We strongly recommend regularly checking your program-specific Moodle course to stay informed and make the most of the support available to you!
